The small and picturesque town of Kennebunkport, Maine, was ranked as the second-most expensive destination for visitors to New England, according to a survey conducted by BostonHotels.org.

The survey compared hotel rates for 30 popular destination in New England during the month of August 2018. In each destination, prices for the cheapest available double rooms were established and compared. Only hotels located close to either a city center or beach and rated at least 3 starts were included.

The survey found that, in Kennebunkport, visitors will spend, on average, as much as $347 per night for the least expensive double room, making it the second-most expensive destination in New England, following only Martha’s Vineyard.

Three other Maine destinations made the Top 10 most expensive destinations in New England for the summer. The survey found that Portland, Maine, took the fourth spot, with an average rate of $294 per night; Bar Harbor took the sixth spot, with an average rate of $236 per night; and Boothbay Harbor took the tenth spot, with an average rate of $223 per night.
