Photos and tweets received from Reunion show fallen power poles, fallen trees, and photos of a violent ocean. ETN also received photos of collapsed homes. Reports talk of several injuries, but no fatalities are known.

Telephone conversations with members of the Reunion Island Tourism Board revealed that business came to a halt on the second day of 2014. People were home, businesses closed, and people prepared for the upcoming cyclone, with everyone waiting at home or in shelters for the storm to pass.

Hotels were able to prepare for the storm, and tourists are safe.

The initial cyclone warning for Mauritius was lifted.
